It baffles me how you could think making Steve Rogers (a paragon of hope and virtue), comics character created by Jews and making him a Nazi is a good idea. People aren't gasping because it's a good "plot twist" people feel physically ill. It's upsetting and offensive how do the writers not care about the way people are reacting?
But Hydra are not Nazis and were never meant to be. They used Hydra in the Cap movie so as not to have to sully that family movie with Nazi soldiers. But in the comics, they were meant to just be a rival spy organization like SPECTRE.
What? I know I’m not the most knowledgeable on comic book lore, but I swear Hydra = Nazi is like… a known thing? With stuff from canon comics to back it up?
Nope. Von Strucker was a Nazi and was head of Hydra for a long time, but he co-opted Hydra from Japan. They were not white supremacists, as they were not all white–they were just “might makes right” style fascists, not tied to race or religion (other than weird alien cult religion stuff).
They premiered in Nick Fury comics from the 60s, as a rival spy agency. It was during the Cold War they debuted in comics, not WWII.
Ok, but when the general public’s view is Hydra=Nazi, it might be best to not turn Captain Fucking America into one.
Um???
Yeah, sure, OK, not Nazis at all….
That panel seems to be the Red Skull saying that Hydra and Nazis are two different things. He was using Hydra to hide that he was doing Nazi things. He could do that, because Hydra were not thought of as a Nazi organization.
Thanks for finding that for me.
Man! JW is taking some serious licks here. It’s a little crazy considering HE DOESN’T EVEN WRITE CAPTAIN AMERICA.
Firstly, I need to address the fact that Hydra has been around for thousands of years. They go back to the 3rd Dynasty of Egypt. Waaaaaay before Nazis were even around. Hydra’s main business model is that the strong will triumph over the weak and achieve total world domination (generic evil fucker shit). The members of Hydra have always been people of political power and wealth throughout time. When the 3rd Reich rolled around, Hydra saw this as an opportunity to attach itself to a powerful organization that could possibly take over the world. The 3rd Reich was a figurehead for Hydra. While Hitler ran the Nazi party on the front end, Hydra performed experiments with cosmic level power to create WMDs to hold the world hostage and assume total power in the shadows. The general difference is that Hydra doesn’t discriminate between race or religion because Hydra has been around for centuries. Hell, they were originally created by people from Northern Africa. I’ll agree that the Red Skull and Baron Strucker shared Nazi ideals, but it’s important to note that THEY DID NOT FOUND HYDRA. They were just members and eventual leaders of Hydra. They didn’t change Hydra’s ideals. So, just because you believe Hydra is a Nazi organization does not make it true. Now, it almost sounds like I’m trying to defend Hydra. I am not. They’re some low-life evil mother fuckers. Members of Hydra see themselves as superior to the poor and the weak, while Captain America is a champion of the people. He defends the weak and the helpless. Now, if you legitimately think that Captain America has been a Hydra agent his entire life and there isn’t some sort of crazy plot twist coming then you obviously have not been reading comics very long. My guess is that he’s either being controlled by Red Skull (who has Professor X’s brain, incase you were not aware of that fact) or he’s playing a double agent (he IS technically a spy at a spy agency). Someone pointed out that Steve Rogers being a Hydra agent goes against everything he stands for. Steve Rogers stands for justice and doing what is right even if that means sacrificing everything that he is. Steve went against the United States government and became a wanted criminal because he didn’t believe in the Superhero Registration Act. No one claimed that Captain America was soiling his name then. If Captain America isn’t being controlled then he is doing what he believes is the right thing because that is what Captain America does. If anything it’s a testament to his character. He might be trying to infiltrate Hydra to locate the Red Skull because if you had been reading Uncanny Avengers then you would know that they’ve been looking for him everywhere. I agree with JW. This is gonna be good. tl;dr… Hydra is not a Nazi organization and Captain America is a hero.
